Shortcomings

I tried three new things this last week and ALMOST made them as cute as their originals.
Here's what I tried:

This fancy tree skirt from "Centsational Girl".  I tried using felt and tulle instead of the fur and it just doesn't look as cute.  Click on the above link for the original tutorial.

I made this cute dress for my daughter from "Lil Blue Boo" (the pic above is from her blog).  Again it didn't turn out as cute as hers.  I didn't use enough snowflakes and the dye bleed through the freezer paper so my snowflakes are dull.  At least their not yellow right???

And finally I attempted this cinnamon roll recipe from My Kitchen Cafe.  I LOVE cinnamon rolls and have never been able to make them well.  Apparently my husbands Grandma cooks amazing cinnamon rolls so it scares me even more to make them.  Needless to say the end result had "potential".  I put way too much cinnamon on them and cut them too thin.  So in about two years I'll give it another shot!

Hope you guys are all ready for Christmas.  Ms. This and Ms. That will be taking a short break to enjoy the holidays with the family.  Merry Christmas!

Sincerely,
Ms. This

{RE}cycled

As I was driving down Main Street the other day I recognized a new consignment shop.  I was so excited to see it that I immediately pulled over and fell in love.  This new consignment and design shop is called "{RE}cycled".  There are no other stores like this in town--St. George has a few consignment shops that I visit each time I make trips there, but I believe this is the only one in Cedar.  It is definitely worth checking out; in fact, I highly recommend it if you are looking for a last minute Christmas gift.  Visit their blog for more information.  If you are not from the area, check to see if there are any consignment shops in your own area.  Consignment shops offer old house decor that have a story behind them. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

I absolutely love these frames.  My younger sister's room is victorian style with a beautiful iron bed in it, so I bought these frames (from {RE}cycled) for her for Christmas to add to her room.

This suitcase is from a consignment store in St. George called "Urban Renewal". The stickers are from there as well.

Sincerely,

Peace on Earth

Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of Christ by sharing peace and love towards one another. We know the hippies were all about having peace and "one love" and their style has been very evident in this past year's fashion designs (I think it was a little bit over-used as well but thats besides the point). Pottery Barn and PB Teen have created some very cute Christmas decor. I thought these ideas were very fun--I hope you enjoy!

Christmas PJ's

I finished my daughter's Christmas PJ's last week and love how they turned out.  They look extremely homemade and ended up being about the same price as store bought ones.  But they were made with love and they are one of a kind...doesn't get much better than that right?

I bought a white shirt at the craft store and then used the freezer paper technique to paint "Dancer" along with the reindeer onto the shirt.  The flannel pants were made from a "simple" Simplicity pattern.

Into the Christmas Spirit

I found cute miniature ornaments at Hobby Lobby and Walmart to decorate my daughters first Christmas tree.  I'm kind of jealous of how it turned out and wish there was a bigger version for our living room.  Here is what I found:

Her tree topper is probably my favorite.  Very girly... don't you think?

They didn't have many cute tree skirts so I bought a white feather boa to finish it off.

Happy Turkey Day

This is our first year staying home for Thanksgiving.  No worries though, we are still mooching off of some friends for dinner.  I've never made a Turkey before and the thought of it kind of intimidates me...maybe next year.  Someday I'm going to have a fancy dinner with a beautiful table display.  Here are a couple ensembles I found at BHG that I wouldn't mind at my future Thanksgiving festivities.

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving...full of counting blessings and food!

Wanna learn the official way of setting the table.  Check it out here

Trial and Error

I attempted my first item of clothing without a pattern and I love the finished product.  It didn't end up the way it was pictured in my head but it fits and that makes me happy.  I also used elastic thread for the first time to sew up the neck and sleeves.  This shirt required little fabric and little time.  I think I'll be making some more.  Maybe even a tutorial!

Felt Food

My daughter may or may not be receiving a kitchen set for Christmas...I believe every cute kitchen set requires cute play food.  My Aunt and Sister-in-law showed me this great link for making felt food from UCreate.  I also loved the book-themed felt food idea found here.  I'm a very visual person and need the instructions right in front of me when I'm "crafting" so I put together some of my favorite felt food tutorials along with some pictures to help create my own.  I figured I would share it with you too if you have the urge to make some cute homemade treats!  I pretty much copied and pasted the tutorials from different websites.  I made sure I put whom it was from at the start of the tutorial if you want to refer back to the original.  Again the links (plus more) can be found here at UCreate.

Sublime Stitching

I'm anxiously awaiting for these two patterns to come in the mail.  I found them on Sublime Stitching and I love the fresh designs that they have created.  They got me excited about embroidery and I can't wait to stitch one of these Dutch-Russian Dolls.

Quiet Book

I made this book for my daughter in hopes that it would be good entertainment during church.  I completed the project and brought it with us to church.  It did not entertain in the way I had hoped.  I think she is still a little too young for it.  She was throwing all the pieces and trying to rip them apart.  I'm a little too attached to the book to let her mess it up like that.  We are storing it in her dresser until she understands what it's for!  Mean...maybe, but look how cute it is....

This is the cover of the book.  I created a tutorial for the book if it is something you want to make.  Just click our tutorial button to find it!

I found a lot of ideas online for the pages of the book.  I copied some, tweaked some a little bit, and created some of my own.  Here are the sights I used for inspiration:

I found a template online for the mailbox on the right but I can't find the link anywhere!  I'll keep searching...

The finger puppets I found in the dollar section at Target.  Ikea has great ones and Martha has a tutorial if you want to make your own (click here)

This page along with the ARK pages are my favorite!  This one reminds me of the PINK line from Victoria's Secret.

Ms This
